Can a student really get proper retention from educational videos?
The Online Learning Revolution is right around the corner. Online
teaching and online coaching are becoming more and more popular as
teachers, tutors, trainers, professors, and other educators look for new ways
to engage with their students and their parents. One of the most popular
mediums for this type of engagement has been video. The question we want to
answer today is: does a student really get proper retention from educational
videos? And if so - how long will that retention last?
One of the biggest tools in an educator's arsenal nowadays is
educational videos. There are so many great ways that teachers can engage their
students with video content - from watching TED Talks about a particular topic
or field to lessons on how to solve certain math problems or demonstrations on
how to play a musical instrument such as guitar. The possibilities really are
endless! We know that there are many different opinions out there about whether
or not educational videos will help to engage your child and actually teach
them something. Many parents, teachers, and tutors feel like video content is
better suited for younger students’ learning pedagogy
because they aren't as interested in reading long blog posts, which can be very
beneficial with older children who may prefer written information instead of
watching a video.
What do the statistics tell us - Online universities have
started collecting data on how their online courses compare to traditional
education when it comes to student retention, and guess what? Online education
programs fair just as well if not slightly better than their offline peers! Of
course, this doesn't come without its own unique challenges but online tutoring
services can be just as effective if not more so than a traditional
college. Again, it takes an extra level of dedication and focuses to accomplish
your goals when you're working towards them from home - but with proper coaching
or mentoring, many people find that achieving these types of milestones
isn't all that difficult!
So let's get back to our original question, does a student really
get proper retention from educational videos? The answer is a resounding YES!
Online education is not only very effective but can also be just as beneficial
as traditional schools and tutoring services. It really comes down to
the student - how much time they're willing to invest in their future, what
tools are available for them, and who's coaching
them along the way, and of course whether or not video content will help with
this process.
One thing we do know, there has never been a better time for online
learning and educational videos! All you need today is an internet
connection and computer; everything else is literally at your fingertips! And
remember, some people learn best by reading written information while others
prefer watching instructional videos instead...there isn't necessarily one right
answer here when it comes to educational videos.
